Seed-to-Plate Project

Oakfield Community's Seed-to-Plate Project is a hands-on opportunity for people with learning disabilities to learn about where our fruit and vegetables come from, how they are grown and how to harvest and use the end product.


Our Easton Maudit site provides the perfect setting to develop our Seed-to-Plate project. Set in just over two acres of ground, in the heart of the countryside, we have two poly tunnels, a greenhouse and a number of raised beds.


As part of the seed-to-plate project, we will be incorporating nature-based activities, to include wood craft (bird boxes, insect hotels), wildlife awareness and habitat creation (ponds, tree planting).
 

The project has been be developed to encourage participation by all. Sessions are person-centred, with the chance to work towards different levels of achievement to gain an accreditation from Oakfield for all their hard work. All participants will receive a portfolio to document their achievements.

What does the session involve?

This session involved members of the project potting seeds, bulbs and small plants.







This session involved sanding down wood, and building/painting seed tampers to be used in future sessions.







This session involved Cutting wood, putting boxes together and building a cosy home for birds.







In this session, members went foraging for blackberries and made blackberry crumble to take home.





Using pots and locally collected contents, members put together their own individual bug hotels.
